JJ Buckley Gets San Francisco Bordeaux’d
November 18th, 2009
Tuesday night is Bordeaux night! Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009
Join JJ Buckley Fine Wines after work on Dec. 1 for an informal tasting of wines from one of the world’s most lauded wine regions!
The concept behind “Tuesday Night Bordeaux” is to dispel the stereotype that good quality Bordeaux is expensive or should be opened only on special occasions. To illustrate, JJ Buckley Fine Wines be pouring around 20 Bordeaux, all of which retail for under $35 per bottle! These are wines that can be consumed young, but also have the right stuff for cellaring.
Enjoy tasting through these wines along with a special selection of hors d’ouevres from acclaimed chef Roland Passot of San Francisco’s Michelin-honored La Folie. Although the setting will be glam, the tasting will be a casual, walkaround format.
Tuesday Night Bordeaux at La Folie
Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

What’s New in Bordeaux: Get WIT It
October 28th, 2009

New sizes help Bordeaux winemaker sell more wine.
Bordeaux winemakers are experimenting with new sizes for the market place. These 100 ml glass screw top tubes, also known as WIT or “wine in tube,” were shown off at the most recent VinExpo in Bordeaux and are making their way to the market thanks to the innovative Bordeaux-based company WIT France.
Winemaker Jean-Baptiste Cordonnier of Chateau Dutruch Grand Poujeaux and Chateau Anthonic in Moulis-en-Medoc is using them to support his importers and sales. Jean-Baptiste suggests that with every purchase of three cases, retailers receive a three pack to sample their customers since he says, “A sampled wine is a sold wine.” As frequent traveler in support of his wines, Jean-Baptiste also says traveling with this size is much easier and cheaper to sample to prospective clients. In the Sauternes region, chateaux are excited about the possibility of reaching a new consumer who wants to experiment with different wines throughout the evening. The new size is the perfect ending to a romantic meal.
While these new sizes might not show up on shelves and restaurants soon in the U.S., this is a sign of things to come from Bordeaux.

Bordeaux Wine School: 3-City Education Tour
August 25th, 2009
Believe it or not, the key holiday selling season is just around the corner. In today’s tough economy, even the best salesman needs an edge in order to turn a profit. With this in mind, the Bordeaux Wine School is committed to helping members of the wine trade – from sales reps and sommeliers to retailers and restaurateurs – by bringing its unique Bordeaux curriculum to three cities across the U.S. Beginning Sept. 14 in New York City, and continuing in Chicago (Sept. 16) and San Francisco (Sept. 21) the first-ever Bordeaux Wine School Education Tour offers wine professionals the exceptional opportunity to get Bordeaux-certified – and raise their Bordeaux sales – in a series of Intermediate and Advanced seminars.
Taught by leading Certified Bordeaux Educators, instructors who have been specially-trained at the Ecole du Vin de Bordeaux, these seminars will guide industry professionals through Bordeaux essentials with a focus on the finer points of the region. Navigate between the Left and Right Banks, delve into the 60 different appellations and cruise your way through the Crus. For $75, members of the trade can choose between a 3-hour morning or afternoon Intermediate Session or can opt for a full-day Advanced Session taught by Wendy Narby, a Bordeaux resident, former château owner and passionate educator. Either way, attendees will leave the class with a better understanding of the renowned region, key selling points and an official certification issued by the Ecole du Vin de Bordeaux, an excellent credential to add to any résumé.
Bordeaux Wine School Schedule:
New York – Monday, Sept 14: Jumeirah Essex House (160 Central Park South)
Chicago – Wednesday, Sept. 16: Embassy Suites Chicago Downtown (511 North Columbus Drive)
San Francisco – Monday, Sept. 21: Hyatt Regency (5 Embarcadero Center)
Two Intermediate Sessions:
